This is my first Instructable! You need jumper wires? Your local shop doesn't sell them? You don't want to wait the mail order to arrive? So make them yourself! Step-by-step instructions how to make male-female jumper wires. First, gather up all the parts: - Some heat shrink - Some wire - Wire cutters - Soldering iron - Male header pins.
So do like I did: Strip a bit out of the wire with wire cutters. Then strip longer part out of the other head. So now bend the longer head so it touches the rubber. Make sure you bend the right head! It should look like this. So now carefully: Insert the heat shrink so it goes bit out of wire's head which touches the rubber. You should not see it anymore.
Then carefully heat it with soldering iron from the other head. Look the picture! And now put the wire from the heat shrink head to the male header pin. Then carefully heat the heat shrink with soldering iron. Hi there, great post, and exactly what I was looking for. I need jumper wires, but I need them to be 10 feet long. Any suggestions on the type of wire I should buy? Thanks much, Sam. Reply 7 years ago on Introduction. Reply 4 years ago.
Thanks for the info. I need five long jumper wires for triple axis accelerometers and am having an impossible time locating the length of jumpers needed. Single threaded plastic coated copper wire. Now, I just hope the signal strength is not hindered due to length.
How to stretch your ear, is it necessary to attach that male header pin??
I mean if it directly enters my breadbard then should I attach that pin or not. Introduction: How to Make Jumper Wires. More by the author:.

Introduction: DIY Male to Female Jumper Wire
The term "jumper wire" simply refers to a conducting wire that establishes an electrical connection between two points in a circuit. You can use jumper wires to modify a circuit or to diagnose problems in a circuit. Regarding this, how do you make a female jumper wire? DIY Male to Female Jumper Wire. Step 1: Tools Needed. I used a wire stripper. Mar 03, · In this video I show you how to build a jump wire. It is the best tool to use when testing bad relays on Volvo cars. I use it to test fuel pump relays. If yo.
Are you also always short on jumper wires? And does it also annoy you that good, solid jumper wires are pretty expensive if you want to buy them? After experimenting with solid core cables to use as jumper wires first, I came up with what I feel is a much better solution. So, before jumping in, what was wrong with the simple single core wire solution, and what should my wires do better? Two things: 1. And I was afraid that after beding them around a couple times, they would actually start breaking inside the isolation, leading to unpredictable results in a prototyped circuit.
This was worse if there were a lot of jumper wires in the same area on the board. I realized that what I needed was the flexibility of a stranded wire, but the strength similar to an actual pin at the ends, like that of a header.
Nothing simpler than that…. As I had some clipped pins from a header row lying around, and some nice stranded wire as well, I started experimenting with those. The only other things needed were some heat-shrink tupe to isolate the connectors, and some soldering work. In the photo, you see the different steps I went through making the wire. It starts at the bottom with the tube, and then goes clock-wise til reaching the isolated pin connected to the wire.
Google is your friend! The Steps And these are the individual steps I made: 1. Hold them for a second or so without moving until the joint is cold enough and will no longer move.
Only clean pin should be visible. Make sure it is long enough to also end up over the isolation on the wire. After I had done a few, it really became simple and fast. I hope this was helpful to some of you, and you will no longer have to pay a lot of money to get good jumper wires!
